With the Version 1.0 release, Starsand Island now has online multiplayer, allowing up to four players to farm, fish, build, and explore the island together. However, you can’t use the multiplayer feature when you start a new save or play the game for the first time.
You will first have to make some progress through the Islander Life system. The good news is that you do not need to complete a large part of the game. You only need to reach the Smooth Sailing stage.
How to Unlock Multiplayer in Starsand Island?
To unlock multiplayer, open your in-game Phone and select the Islander Life app.
You will see a list of objectives that unlock new features when you complete them. Keep completing these tasks until you reach Smooth Sailing.
Here are all the stages you need to complete:
1. Returning Resident
Complete the introductory quest “Long Time No See!”
This is part of the early game and gets you started with the basic island activities.
2. Apprentice Talent
Reach Apprentice level in any profession.
You can choose whichever profession you prefer. You do not need to reach Apprentice rank in multiple professions.
3. Decorate Your Home
Place 6 furniture items inside your home.
You can use any furniture that you have available. This step is mainly about getting you started with the game’s home decoration system.
4. First Pot of Gold
You need to complete two requirements for this stage:
- Accumulate 2,000 Coins
- Get to know 10 Islanders
You can work toward both objectives while playing normally. Talk to Islanders and earn Coins through activities such as farming, gathering, crafting, and selling items.
5. Junior Talent
Next, reach Junior level in any profession.
You also need to complete 5 requests from the Community Center Bulletin Board. Once both requirements are finished, you can move on to the next Islander Life stage.
6. Island Pro
Reach the Island Pro stage by expanding your land once.
Open your Phone → Buy Land and purchase your first land expansion. The Buy Land feature will unlock through the earlier Island Life progression.
7. Smooth Sailing
This is the important one for multiplayer.
You need to help Marston build the Maritime Bureau to complete the Smooth Sailing stage.
You can also find this task under the Island Life progression lists for Smooth Sailing.
Once you reach Smooth Sailing, the Multiplayer feature will unlock through the Islander Life app.
Now you can invite your friends into your game and start farming and fishing, buliding and exploring the island.
Quick Multiplayer Unlock Checklist
If you just want to know the requirements, follow this order:
- Complete Long Time No See!
- Reach Apprentice in any profession.
- Place 6 furniture items in your home.
- Earn 2,000 Coins and get to know 10 Islanders.
- Reach Junior in any profession.
- Complete 5 Community Center Bulletin Board requests.
- Expand your land once using Phone → Buy Land.
- Help Marston build the Maritime Bureau.
- Reach Smooth Sailing and unlock Multiplayer.
How Many Players Can Play Together?
The Version 1.0 release added online multiplayer for up to four players. Players can farm, fish, build, explore, and enjoy other island activities together.
So if you have just started a new game and cannot find the multiplayer option, you do not need to look for a separate multiplayer quest. Continue progressing through the Islander Life app until you complete Smooth Sailing.
