The recent EA39 update for Ravenfield added a secret weapon called the Thunder Katana. You won’t find it in your loadout at first, though. You need to complete a hidden puzzle involving six glowing circles and a frog on the new island map to unlock this weapon.
Once you finish the puzzle, the Katana will appear, and you can add it to your loadout. The process is not as simple as it seems, and without a proper guide, you can’t complete it on your own.
Here’s where to find all six circles and how you can equip the Thunder Katana in easy steps.
How to Unlock the Thunder Katana
First of all, start a game on the new island map. Set both teams to 0 bots so you can move freely around without getting into any fights.
The new island map is heavier than some older maps, so playing without mods is recommended.
Make sure you do not enable Configure Flag, as this can mess up the trick, and as a result, the Katana will not appear.
Once done, hit the Play button.
Now your main objective is to find the six glowing circles and the frog connected to them.
When you get close to a circle, you will hear the frog. Stand in the circle and wait for the frog to jump into the water. A spark will then appear and point you toward the next circle.
Do not shoot the frog. If you shoot it, you will have to restart the map and do the sequence again.
Circle 1 – Pond Near Raven Spawn
The first glowing circle is at the pond near the Raven spawn point, on the western side of the map.
Stand on the circle and wait for the frog to jump into the water. Now you’ll see a spark, and it will lead you to the second circle.
Important: If any frog is not jumping into the water, then make sure you are aiming your weapon at them. You have to only aim, and do not shoot; otherwise, you’ll have to repeat the entire sequence again.
Circle 2 – Barn
The second circle is on the second floor of the barn.
Enter the barn, go upstairs, and you’ll see a glowing circle. Stand in the circle, and the frog will jump into a bucket. Once done, follow the next spark.
Circle 3 – Small Island
The third frog is at the small island on the outskirts (bottom-left) of the map.
The island is connected by a bridge, so cross the bridge and look for the circle there. You can find the glowing circle just near the small pond where the frog is.
Stand in the circle, and the frog will jump, leading you to the next spark.
Circle 4 – Eagle Spawn Coast
The fourth circle is on the coast next to the Eagle spawn point.
Go to the shoreline and look for the glowing circle. Stand in it and wait for the frog to jump. Now move on to the next circle.
Circle 5 – Boathouse
The fifth frog is at the boathouse near the quarry.
Drive to the boathouse and enter it. This circle is very close to the frog, so stand on the circle, and the frog will jump into the water, creating a new spark.
Circle 6 – Middle of the Map
The sixth and final frog is near the farm barn in the middle of the map.
Check the pond area and find the circle. Stand in the circle, aim your gun at the frog, and it will jump into the water.
Shoot the Thunder Katana Reflection
When the sixth frog jumps, the water will change, and you can see the reflection of the Katana in it.
Now you have to take a gun and aim at the reflection. I used the Slam-R because it works best.
If you do not have a rifle in your loadout, then you can also find a sniper rifle leaning against a tree near the final circle. Pick it up and aim through the scope at the Katana’s reflection.
Here’s a catch. First, do not shoot the reflection. Just aim at the reflection for around 2 seconds, and you will see the Thunder Katana plunge straight into the ground.
If aiming at the reflection doesn’t help, then shoot it.
Some players reported that shooting the reflection worked for them, while others said that aiming is enough. However, there is no harm to shoot teh reflection because our frog has already jumped into the water.
Once you see the Thunder Katana plunged into the ground, jump onto the Lily pads and reach near the weapon.
Press F to pull the blade, and it will be added to your loadout.
Where to Find the Thunder Katana
Once you successfully pick up the Katana, it will appear in your loadout under the Secret Weapon tab.
You can equip it in the primary weapon slot.
The Thunder Katana also has a second fire mode, so check the alternate fire button after equipping it.
