Want to change the currency symbol in Transport Fever 3? You can do it by editing one file in the game’s User Data Folder. The game uses $ by default, but you can replace it with symbols like €, £, or ¥.
Transport Fever 3 is a transport management game where you build routes, move passengers and cargo, and manage the costs of your growing transport network. The currency isn’t tied to a real-world currency, so changing the symbol only changes how the money appears on screen.
How to Change the Currency Symbol in Transport Fever 3
You only have to edit the Settings.lua file. Notepad++ is recommended, although regular Notepad also works.
1. Open the User Data Folder
Launch Transport Fever 3 and open the Settings menu.
Go to the Advanced tab and click Open User Data Folder.
You can also find the folder manually through File Explorer or Finder at:
Steam\userdata\[usernumber]\3493540\local
The [usernumber] folder is different for each player. It is not the same as your Steam profile number.
If you have several folders there, the correct one is generally the most recently changed folder and contains folders for your games.
2. Open Settings.lua
Inside the local folder, find: Settings.lua
Open the file with Notepad++ or another text editor.
You can scroll down to around line 138, or use the search option and look for:
moneyPrefix =
This setting controls the currency symbol shown in the game.
3. Replace the Currency Symbol
By default, the game uses the dollar symbol. Replace the existing symbol with moneyPrefix = with the symbol you want.
For example, you can use:
- € — Euro
- £ — British Pound
- ¥ — Yen
On Windows, you can enter some symbols with Alt codes:
- € = Alt + 0128
- £ = Alt + 0163
- ¥ = Alt + 0165
You can also use another symbol if your text editor and the game support it.
4. Save the File
Save Settings.lua after changing the symbol.
Start the game again, and now you can see the new symbol wherever the game’s currency appears.
Does This Change the Actual Currency?
No. This is only a visual change.
Transport Fever 3 does not use the symbol as a real-world currency conversion. The game’s money is just a numerical value with a currency symbol displayed in front of it.
Changing $ to €, £, ¥, or another symbol does not change the value of your money or apply any currency conversion.
Will the Change Stay After Game Updates?
A future Transport Fever 3 update may overwrite the modified file because you are changing a file from the game’s default setup.
If the currency symbol goes back to $ after an update, repeat the same steps and change moneyPrefix again.
