The Rune Puzzle in We Were Here Tomorrow requires you and your partner to configure your devices correctly. Each player will have a different item, so you need to follow the rune setup for your own item rather than copying your partner’s configuration.
The main challenge is choosing the correct plant and effect runes without creating conflicting combinations. Here’s how the Rune puzzle works and how to set up both devices when you and your partner split up.
How the Rune Puzzle Works
There are two types of runes in the game:
- Plant runes (crosses): These represent the plants used in the puzzle.
- Effect runes (triangles): These determine the effects applied to those plants.
To solve the puzzle, first decide which effect you need and which plant it must affect. Then set the corresponding runes on your device.
Also pay attention to how the effects work together. For example, you cannot combine an effect that increases something with another effect that decreases the same thing. These conflicting settings will prevent you from getting the intended result.
Another important detail is the eye that controls the devices. A device only works when the eye can see a player. If your rune settings appear correct but the device does not respond, check whether the eye can see either player.
Rune Puzzle Solution When You Split Up
The following screenshots show an example solution for the point where you and your partner separate. Both players must configure their own devices according to the instructions below.
1. Player Carrying the Velcro
If you have the Velcro, use the rune configurations shown in the screenshots below. Check the symbols on your device and match them with the provided images.
2. Player Carrying the Cube
If you’re carrying the cube, configure your device using the screenshots below. Your setup is different from the Velcro player’s setup, so use these images for your own device.
3. Keep these Devices Inactive
There is one more important condition for this puzzle: the devices shown in the screenshot below must remain inactive.
Do not activate these devices as part of this solution. Check the rune settings on both sides and confirm that the eye can see a player if a device does not respond.
