One Million Coins Guide

One Million Coins Guide: Fastest Strategy & Upgrade Order

My main objective in the One Million Coins game is to collect 1 million coins and deposit them to complete the run. But I also need to complete this as fast as possible. The game tracks completion times on its leaderboard, giving me a reason to improve and compete for a higher rank. A faster run can also help me earn the Time Is Money achievement.

The right upgrades can help me reach the top of the leaderboard. This One Million Coins strategy guide focuses on the early and mid-game upgrades that help me build momentum, followed by capacity upgrades and powerful hand abilities for the late game.

This strategy was developed around versions 1.0 and 1.1, but many players have also reported completing the achievement in version 1.2 with adjusted upgrade paths.

Best Upgrade Order for One Million Coins

For the version 1.2 strategy, I usually start with these upgrades in order:

  1. Wall Chutes
  2. Quick Deposit
  3. Two at a Time
  4. Efficient Delivery
  5. Pocket Bank

After placing the Pocket Bank, I focus on bag capacity and the Pump upgrade. I always keep my bag from reaching its limit, and reposition the Pocket Bank when I move outside its collection range.

As I progress, I invest in the Magnet and its upgrades. I choose the upgrade order that best suits my run, and I remember to use my right-click ability and Chute Overdrive.

Early Game: Build Automatic Income

My first goal is to get rid of the manual coin collection task. Initially, I need to collect the 25 coins, then I can purchase the first chute upgrade.

Next, I have to improve my deposit speed and work toward unlocking the portable banking system. I recommend spending my first four upgrade points on one chute upgrade and three deposit upgrades before placing the Portable Bank.

The Portable Bank provides automatic coin collection, allowing me to earn coins while I work on other upgrades. Its base collection rate is 30 coins per second, with a maximum rate of 150 coins per second.

I also keep the bank within range of the coin piles. I reposition it as I move around the map so it continues collecting coins instead of sitting too far away from the action.

Mid Game: Increase Your Bag Capacity

Once the bank starts collecting coins, I focus on increasing my bag capacity. A larger bag lets me gather more coins before I need to deposit them.

I recommend taking the first three large capacity upgrades on the left side, followed by Ghost Hand 1 in the middle of the Hands tree. I add more capacity upgrades as needed, then unlock Flow on the left side of the Hands tree.

I like to continue improving my capacity before investing heavily in the active ability. My goal is to collect large amounts of coins without constantly stopping to deposit them.

I prioritize Bag Capacity and Pump upgrades during this stage. I also keep checking my bag so it does not fill up and interrupt my collection.

Late Game: Improve Your Active Ability

Once I unlock the Hand active ability, I invest in its upgrade tree to increase the number of coins I collect with each use.

I also like to maximize the ability’s percentage-based bonuses. Since the ability benefits from my capacity, a larger bag can make each activation much more effective.

I focus on these upgrades:

  • Bag Capacity: Increases the amount of coins my bag can hold, improving the value of percentage-based collection.
  • Hand upgrades: Improve the effectiveness of my collection ability.
  • Ghost Hands: They provide a great benefit to the active ability.
  • Auto Deposit: I invest in this upgrade to reduce the need for manual deposits.
  • Chutes: Add more chute upgrades to improve automatic collection.

With enough upgrades, my every activation can collect thousands of coins and provide multiple upgrade points. At this point, I can collect around 10,000–25,000 coins per activation during the late game.

Now I also need to keep using my right-click ability and Chute Overdrive. The suggested upgrade order is just a starting point, so I can adjust my choices if my bag fills too quickly or my collection rate falls behind.

Understand the Coin Piles on the Map

The coins are not all concentrated in one large pile. The map contains several nearby sections, identified as the middle, top, left, right, and elevator areas.

From the middle of the map, I look around and notice four outer shafts of coins.

I collect coins from the upper parts of these shafts whenever possible. Approaching them from below or from the side can reduce the effectiveness of certain abilities and collection effects.

As my upgrades become stronger, I work on clearing the outer shafts instead of focusing only on the middle pile.

Avoid Emptying the Middle Too Early

The Hand active ability can collect so many coins that it clears an entire section. However, the ability may fail when coins remain above its target area.

If I clear the middle too quickly, I may need to walk back up to reach coins in the other sections. That extra movement wastes valuable time.

To avoid this problem, I collect from the upper parts of the outer sections during the early and mid-game. This helps me clear the map more evenly and reduces unnecessary backtracking.

Which Upgrades Should I Use?

My priorities depend on the game version and the stage of my run.

How Long Does the Achievement Take?

My completion time depends on my upgrade choices, how efficiently I cover the map, and how well I use my abilities.

I have reported the following results with these strategies:

  • Version 1.2: I completed the run in 33 minutes after following the older strategy.
  • Version 1.2: I finished in 34 minutes after adding extra Hand and deposit upgrades.
  • Version 1.2: 45 and 58 minutes with slower upgrade choices.
How Long Does the Achievement Take?

These are the only results, not guaranteed completion times. The original sub-20-minute strategy was developed for versions 1.0 and 1.1, so you should not expect identical results in version 1.2.

For the best results, build automatic income early, keep increasing your capacity, use your abilities regularly, and avoid wasting time on manual collection and deposits.
