To unlock the Timber! achievement in A Game About Chopping Trees, you will have to defeat the hidden Keeper of the Tree of Life. It is an Ent boss that was added in the latest update. You need two hidden keys to reach the boss, and a chainsaw can make your fight easy.
Here, I will show you the locations of the hidden keys & how to kill the Ent boss, Keeper of the Tree of Life.
Locations of the Two Secret Keys
You’ll need both keys to enter the secret cave area behind the Dark Forest house.
1. First Key Location – Birch Grove
Go to the Birch Grove and find the house.
Walk behind the house and look near the large wheel. You will see a hole in the ground covered by a pile of wooden planks.
Break the planks with your axe. You’ll find the first key.
2. Second Key Location – Oak Forest
Go to the Oak Forest house and enter it.
Walk upstairs to the attic. Break the piles of wood with your axe and look for the chest containing the second key.
You now have both keys required for the secret boss area.
Key Collection Bug:
Some players have reported a bug with the keys. The first key may not appear even if you break through the planks.
One player also reported that collecting the keys in the wrong order caused a soft lock. After returning to the main menu and loading the save again, the second key appeared again and could be collected twice.
Another player also reported that New Game+ caused the second key to spawn twice when the first key was still blocked.
So, if a key does not appear or cannot be collected, try saving, returning to the main menu, and loading the save again.

Secret Cave Location
Take a chainsaw before going to the cave. You can easily win the boss fight with it.
Go to the Dark Forest house.
Walk around to the back of the house. You will find an entrance leading into an ice cave.
Enter the cave, and you will see a gate with two locks.
Use the two keys to open the gate.
Keep going until you see the large tree roots blocking the path. Use your chainsaw to cut through them.
Now you will reach a board with some images on it. Go left from there.
You’ll find another large root blocking the path. Cut through them with the chainsaw.
Finally, you’ll see the Tree of Life.
Cut the Tree of Life with your chainsaw. Make sure you don’t cut the tree stump, as it can be used for cover in the fight. Be prepared for the boss fight. The Keeper of the Tree of Life will spawn.
This is the boss you need to defeat for the Timber! achievement.
Keeper of the Tree of Life Boss Fight
This fight has three phases. The boss changes its attacks as its health goes down.
Phase 1 – Rocks
In the first attack, it mainly throws rocks at you.
Each rock takes roughly 1/6 of your health.
At the start of the fight, you can use the Tree of Life stump as cover. Stay behind it when the boss throws rocks, then move out and attack with the chainsaw.
You need roughly 6–7 chainsaw attacks to finish this phase.
Keep in mind that the stump does not stay intact forever. Players have reported that it gets destroyed during the fight, so do not think that it will remain as permanent cover.
Phase 2 – Rocks and Ground Spikes
In the second phase, the boss adds ground spikes to its attack. It also throws rocks as well.
To win this phase, just watch the ground when the spikes start appearing. The safest position in my gameplay is near the boss because the spikes do not appear in the area immediately around it.
When the boss attacks with the spikes, move close to it and keep attacking with the chainsaw.
When it throws rocks, you can use the remaining tree stump cover if you have it and avoid the attack.
The important part of this phase is to avoid the yellow danger areas on the ground. Do not stand in those areas while waiting for the boss to attack.
Phase 3 – Laser
You may find the third phase dangerous, but it can actually be easier once you know how the laser works.
The boss keeps spawning ground spikes, but it stops throwing rocks. Instead, it fires a tracking laser.
The laser can kill you instantly if it hits you.
To win this phase, make sure you stay close to the boss and keep moving around it. The laser aims at a fixed height, so staying near the boss and moving around its body can keep you out of its path.
Stay away from the yellow danger areas and keep attacking with the chainsaw.
Don’t think about crouching and trying to run away from the boss, because it will not work, and you’ll be killed instantly. Just stay behind the boss and continuously circle it with the chainsaw instead.
So, do not waste time trying to hide during this phase. Stay close, keep moving, and attack from behind when possible.
Once the boss dies, the Timber! achievement will unlock.
You will also receive the Galaxy Axe skin for defeating the boss.
A Game About Chopping Trees – Timber! Achievement – Quick Steps
Here is the complete route in short:
- Go to the Birch Grove house.
- Walk behind the house near the large wheel.
- Break the wooden planks and collect Key #1.
- Go to the Oak Forest house.
- Enter the house and go to the attic.
- Break the wood piles and collect Key #2 from the chest.
- Take a chainsaw.
- Go behind the Dark Forest house.
- Enter the ice cave.
- Use both keys on the locked gate.
- Cut through the large roots.
- Go left after reaching the board with the image.
- Cut through the next root.
- Reach the Tree of Life.
- Cut the tree to spawn the Keeper of the Tree of Life.
- Use the chainsaw to defeat all three phases.
- Get the Timber! achievement and the Galaxy Axe skin.
