Playing as Michael Myers in Halloween: The Game is not just about chasing people and swinging your knife. You need to stalk targets, manage Bloodlust, use Shape Jump properly, and use the right time to attack.
This guide covers how to unlock the Boogeyman mode, the best abilities you can use, how to enter houses, how to stalk, how to kill, and some other useful tricks for getting more points.
Best Boogeyman Loadout
Before starting a match, you can choose your weapon and up to three special abilities. Your weapon is mostly a personal choice, and you can choose whatever you prefer, but your abilities affect a lot.
You can also drop your current weapon during a match and return to your knife. Michael always has his knife available.
Reality Tear
Reality Tear is one of the most useful abilities you can have.
It lets you enter or leave Shape Jump even when you normally cannot. This can be very useful when you’re caught in the light, being watched, or fighting someone who keeps you from entering Shape Jump.
The cooldown time can be long, but the ability is strong enough to justify it.
Detection Pulse
Detection Pulse is very useful when you are having trouble finding people.
You can activate it to reveal nearby players and NPCs. Targets inside buildings are shown as red marks on the building, while people outside are highlighted directly.
Marked players also know that they have been detected, so make sure to use it only when you need information rather than wasting it randomly.

Blackout
Blackout disables nearby light sources and cars. It can also force doors closed.
This can be very useful when someone is trying to blind you with a flashlight or when you need to quickly enter a house. It can also stop someone from escaping through a door.
However, Blackout is useful, but it isn’t as important as Reality Tear.
Shadow Strike
Shadow Strike throws a knife that blinds the target and slows them for a short time.
It works best when someone is already close to you. You can find its short cooldown as a main advantage, but it isn’t a great tool for stopping players who know how to loop you.
Evil Presence
Evil Presence can be a good choice if you are surrounded by many people.
It staggers nearby targets and gives Michael a health boost. The stagger completely stops them for a moment, allowing you to attack or grab someone.
If you’re thinking to fight groups, this ability can be more useful than Shadow Strike.
Shape Mines
Shape Mines can be placed around the map and will alert you when someone triggers one.
You can activate three of them at once, and their cooldowns are fairly short. They can provide some information, but there are usually better ways to spend your ability slots.
Understand Your HUD
Your HUD gives you most of the information you need during a match.
Keep an eye on:
- The map
- Key Targets
- Police level
- Bloodlust
- Ability cooldowns
The most important thing to remember is that Halloween: The Game is heavily based on score.
A player escaping or dying doesn’t matter to your score. NPCs, especially Key Targets and Citizens, are important for your final score.
Which Targets Should You Kill First?
There are four main types of targets you’ll deal with.
1. Key Targets
These Targets are shown in yellow, and they should be your main priority. Killing them gives Michael a huge amount of points. You don’t lose those points if you fail to kill them, but ignoring them can reduce your score.
If possible, stalk them before executing them. This can give you more points and value.
2. Citizens
Citizens are shown in blue, and they don’t give as many points as Key Targets. However, they’re important for building your Bloodlust.
Do not let them escape, as it can cost you some points.
Citizens are usually easier to deal with than player-controlled Heroes, so they’re good targets while you’re building strength.
3. Heroes
Heroes are player-controlled characters and appear in green.
They worth more than regular Citizens, but they’re hard to kill as another player is controlling them.
Don’t think to chase and kill Heroes at the beginning of the match. Focus on key targets and citizens, as they can give you better use of your time.
Once all civilian Heroes have either escaped or died, you can track the remaining NPCs more easily. Living NPCs will be stalked to Tier 1, and Citizens will appear as blue marks on your map.
4. Cops
AI Cops give very little score.
They are mainly there to investigate evidence and make your life harder. Player-controlled cops are a different story because they carry guns and send you to hell in a few seconds.
Use Killer Sense to Track People
Press the middle mouse button to enter Killer Sense.
This gives you a much better view of what’s happening around you. Different colored marks represent different things:
- Red highlights: Weapons
- Green marks: Phones
- Blue rings: Small noises
- Red rings: Loud noises
- Red ring with skull: Context kill location
- Green static rings: Noise sources such as TVs and stereos
Killer Sense is also used for stalking targets.
Alternatively, you can use Killer Sense to teleport into certain hiding spots when you’re close enough.
Shape Jump Is Your Best Movement Tool
Shape Jump is one of the most important abilities in Michael’s kit.
It lets you travel around the map without getting noticed and can also be used to enter houses through doors and windows.
You can press Space to dash while using Shape Jump. The blue bar shows your available dash charges.
There are some restrictions. You normally can’t enter or leave Shape Jump when:
- You’re standing in light.
- A player or NPC can see you.
- You’re too close to a player or NPC.
Your target’s Stalk level also affects how close you can appear to them. The higher their Stalk level, the closer you can exit Shape Jump.
Shape Jump can also take you into hiding spots when you’re close enough.
How to Grab and Kill People
Your basic attacks are handled with the mouse.
- Left Click: Light attack
- Right Click: Heavy attack or weapon-specific action
- F: Grab
- Space: Shove
Grabbing is one of your main ways to finish a target, but don’t grab someone when several players are standing nearby.
After grabbing someone, you can choose between different execution methods.

Weapon Execution
This kills the target using the weapon you’re currently holding.
Remember that some weapons have long animations. A slow execution can make you vulnerable when you are surrounded by other players.

Bloodthirsty Execution
This method requires maximum Bloodthirst.
It takes longer and requires additional button prompts, but it gives a huge score. If you have enough time and you’re in a safe position, it’s worth using.
Bare-Handed Execution
This option is always available, and it is also the default killing method in the game.
Michael can finish the target with his bare hands by grabbing or choking them.
If you don’t have any weapon or bloodthirst, you’ll only see the bare-handed kill option.
Context Kills
Context kills are often the best option when you have one available.
Grab a target and take them to a suitable kill location such as telephone wires. There you can finish them very quickly. Some context kills require a higher Stalk level.
They also give good score, so keep an eye out for the red skull markers while using Killer Sense.
Shove
The shove is much more useful than it might look.
Press Space to shove forward. You can use it to interrupt attacks, stagger someone, and then quickly follow up with a grab or attack.
If someone is trying to fight you alone, a well-timed shove can completely change the fight result.
How to Enter Houses
You need to enter Houses to find citizens, tapes, collectibles, and other targets.
There are several ways to get inside.
Use the Power Box
You can usually find a power box and fuse box outside a house.
The power box controls the lights, and the fuse box disables phones inside the house.
You can switch the power off or damage the box to make the repairs much longer.
Be careful, though. Turning off the power can make people inside investigate what’s happening. That’s not always what you want.
Break or Unlock the Door
You can punch through a locked door to unlock it, but this can alert anyone inside.
You can also break the door completely.
If you’re using a pickaxe or woodaxe, use them to break the doors faster rather than simply punching them with your hands.
Enter Through Shape Jump

Shape Jump is usually the quieter option.
While in Shape Jump, you can move through doors and windows as long as they aren’t protected by light.
Look for dark windows or entrances that aren’t covered by the red light restriction. Some houses have an unlit bathroom or closet window that gives you an easy way inside.
Teleport Into a Hiding Spot
Killer Sense gives you another way to invade a house.
If you’re close enough to a hiding spot, you can teleport directly into it while using Killer Sense.
This works even when the house lights are on, making it a very useful way to get inside without announcing your arrival.
It shares a cooldown with Shape Jump, though, so keep that in mind.
You also can’t use it if someone is watching you.
How Stalking Works in Halloween: The Game
Stalking is one of the most important parts of playing Michael.
Enter Killer Sense and keep your target in view. You’ll see orbs appear around them. Interact with the orbs to increase their Stalk level.
You can also use focus to speed the process up, while standing still can make stalking easier.
There are many benefits of stalking:
- You can track the target through Shape Jump
- They can’t escape from you
- You can grab them easily
- Lets you use higher-tier context kills
- It increases the value of your target
- Lets you exit Shape Jump closer to them
Tier 1 Stalk

You need to aim a minimum of Tier 1 to properly execute a Citizen after grabbing them.
A target can also reach Tier 1 passively when you’re extremely close or while you’re holding them.
Try not to rely on this. It’s better to stalk your targets yourself.
Tier 2 Stalk

Tier 2 is a good point to go for a kill.
The target becomes harder to escape from; you can get closer to them through Shape Jump, and you gain better rewards.
The Stalk level also takes longer to disappear.
Tier 3 Stalk

Tier 3 is the maximum level.
At this point, escaping from Michael isn’t possible. You can also exit Shape Jump extremely close to the target and unlock more context kill options.
If you can safely stalk a target to Tier 3, I would recommend it because it gives you more rewards once you kill them.
Remember that Stalk decreases when the target leaves your line of sight. It can also decrease while you’re in Shape Jump.
Don’t disappear for too long if you’re planning to finish that target.
What to Do After Killing Someone in Halloween: The Game
So you executed someone and are thinking about what to do next? You get plenty of options here:
Admire the Body

Enter Killer Sense and look at the body.
This can give you additional XP and Bloodlust. It can be more useful when you’re close to reaching the next Bloodlust level.
Hide the Body

You can carry a corpse to a hiding spot like a car, bedroom, closet, bush, etc and place it inside.
Hiding the body is always preferred because it makes it harder for Cops to find evidence of your kills. This also helps in not triggering your next victim who is coming to that place. If they see a dead body, they will panic and run away.
However, someone can still discover the body.
Display the Body

If you want to display your art, then you can also hang or pin it on walls, doors, and fences.
This can scare anyone who discovers it and gives you Artist points.
You can also throw a corpse at someone, although carrying bodies slows you down, so it’s rarely the most practical option.
How Bloodlust Works
Bloodlust increases as you continue doing things around the map.
You can build it through actions such as:
- Stalking
- Attacking
- Killing
- Admiring bodies
- Fully stalking Citizens
Higher Bloodlust makes Michael stronger in several ways.
It improves things such as:
- Attack damage
- Grab strength
- Damage resistance
- Ability cooldowns
- Stalking speed
If you get knocked down, it will reduce some Bloodlust and can even lower your Bloodlust level.
So try not to get thrown away by taking unnecessary fights.
Find Key Targets With Bloodlust
Once you have Bloodlust, you’ll start seeing another useful clue in Shape Jump.
You’ll see a golden beam in the sky pointing toward your Key Target.

The higher your Bloodlust level, the farther away you can see this beam.
You may also see golden marks on your map when you’re close enough.
Golden marks are Key Targets, while blue marks represent other targets.
The Best Way to Play a Match
Your general game plan should be simple.
First, get familiar with the map and locate nearby Citizens or Key Targets.
Try to stalk important targets before killing them. Build Bloodlust and don’t engage in unnecessary fights with groups.
Once you’re stronger, start attacking aggressively and use Shape Jump to move between targets quickly.
Always Look for Key Targets
If you find a Key Target, they should be your priority.
Ideally, stalk them to Tier 2 or Tier 3 before finishing them. But if they are getting out of hand, killing them quickly is better than losing the target completely.
All three Key Targets can make a huge impact on your final score.
Don’t Chase Heroes Too Early
Player-controlled Heroes are generally harder to deal with than NPC Citizens.
Early in the match, focus on killing Citizens and key targets. Build Bloodlust and become stronger before taking on experienced players.
If a Hero is protecting a Citizen, you are free to finish both of them, as you don’t have any choice.
Break Phones and Radios
Make sure to destroy objects such as phones, radios, TVs, and speakers if you don’t want to get into more problems.
If you see any phone or radio, break it instantly because they can invite cops.
How to Deal With Cops

If the cops receive the invitation, they will instantly show up and try to attack you.
However, finishing them doesn’t give much score.
Also, make sure you don’t kill them too early, as you can create more problems for yourself because dispatch may send additional Cops. You can also speed up the arrival of the patty wagon.
They can also drop a cop car key, which may give Heroes another useful escape or weapon option.
For these reasons, I generally avoid AI Cops early in the match.
Once the players are gone, you can deal with Cops because they can only respawn as Cops that are already alive on the map.
Loomis Is Different
Loomis can only be called into the match after a player dies.
If players simply escape, Loomis cannot be called in.
Don’t Be Afraid of 1v1 Fights
If someone tries to fight Michael alone, you usually have the advantage.
Watch for their heavy attacks and use your shove to interrupt them. After staggering them, you can go for a grab.
If they don’t have enough Stalk, you can also damage them first. Once their health gets low, they may start limping, giving you an easier target to stalk and finish.
The main exception is someone carrying a pocket knife. A pocket knife can still cause problems regardless of your Stalk level.
How to Deal With Groups
Fighting a single player and fighting with several players at once are different.
Don’t grab someone when three or more players are around you.
Instead, use your attacks and shove to keep damaging the group.
If the group is only wasting your time, leave them.
While they’re busy searching you, they’re not opening exits, rescuing Citizens, or calling more Cops. You can use that time to hunt other targets and build Bloodlust.
Focus on the Dangerous Player
When fighting a group, prioritize the player-controlled Loomis or Cop first.
Their weapons can easily kill you, especially if they have a gun.
If you have already stalked one of them, feel free to grab them when they’re separated from the group.
Reality Tear can be useful here. You can use it to instantly enter the fight and damage a dangerous player before they have time to react.
How to Find Hiding Citizens
Citizens won’t always stay in the open.
If someone is hiding, you have a couple of options.
Use the Detection Pulse to reveal nearby targets.
You can also use Killer Sense and look for unusual green noise indicators. If you notice a strange noise coming from somewhere that doesn’t make sense, such as a parked car, check it.
Someone may be hiding nearby.
Reduce the Citizen’s health without killing, and use the extra time to stalk them up to Tier 3 and then finish them for a better reward.
Use the Station Wagon
Some maps have a station wagon that Michael can drive.
It is shown on the mini-map and is usually located around the Myers house.
You can use it to move around the map and even run people over to kill them.
