RetroSpace has two main endings, and your final choice decides what happens to Aurora 5 after you clear the contagion block. You can choose to continue the original mission and return to the Golden Journey fleet, or set your destination to Earth.
Both endings have different outcomes and unlock their own Steam achievements. The game also has six post-credits scenes, which are based on the choices and actions you made during your playthrough. Some of these scenes have higher priority than others, so even if you meet multiple requirements, they will not trigger the scene you expect.
Below, you will find how to reach both RetroSpace endings, what happens after each ending, achievements they unlock, and how to see all six post-ending scenes.
RetroSpace Good Ending: Return to the Fleet
You can get the good ending by choosing to continue Aurora 5’s original mission and return to the Golden Journey fleet.
After clearing the contagion block, go to the navigation terminal and choose the option to rejoin the Aurora fleet.
Aurora 5 will then align its coordinates with the rest of the Golden Journey convoy.
This ending will also unlock the Too good to be true achievement.
What Happens in the Good Ending?
Aurora 5 starts its jump and escapes the black hole’s distortion field.
The ship reaches the rendezvous coordinates, but things are not what the crew expected. The communications system reports that there are no radio transmissions from the other vessels.
When you look outside, you can see that the fleet is not completely intact. At least one nearby Aurora station has been torn in half.
The remaining ships are still drifting through space, but there is no communication from them. The game leaves the final fate of the fleet and its AI systems unresolved.
If you are still exploring Aurora 5, you will also come across locked doors, security panels, rooms, and terminals that require codes. Check our RetroSpace: All Codes & Passwords guide for the required codes.
RetroSpace Bad Ending: Return to Earth
The bad ending can trigger when you choose to abandon the fleet’s mission and return to Earth.
After clearing the contagion block, go to the bridge terminal and choose Earth as your destination.
Aurora 5 will then start its journey back toward the Sol system.
This ending also unlocks the Not the best outcome… achievement.
What Happens in the Bad Ending?
Aurora 5 will complete its warp jump toward Earth.
When the ship reaches its destination, it tries to establish communication with ground control. But it doesn’t get any response.
The communications system reports that no radio transmissions are being received from Earth.
If you look down at the planet, then you can understand what happened to the Earth. Earth has become a brown, desolate wasteland covered in thick atmospheric smog. The remains of destroyed satellites can also be seen around the planet.
The ending shows that Dr. Westfield’s decision to return to Earth was ultimately futile. Earth had already been lost long before Aurora 5 could make it back.
You can also find optional audio logs while exploring the ship to unlock the Radio Ga Ga achievement.
Which RetroSpace Ending Is Canon?
There is no official confirmation from The Wild Gentlemen that one of the two main endings is the canon ending.
Some player analysis leans toward the Golden Journey fleet ending as the more likely thematic choice, but this should not be treated as confirmed canon.
So, if you are looking for the officially confirmed canon ending, there isn’t one at this time.
RetroSpace Post-Ending Scenes
Your ending choice is only part of what will happen after the credits. RetroSpace also has six post-ending scenes based on your actions during the playthrough.
These scenes have a priority order. If you meet the requirements for multiple scenes, the scene higher on the list takes priority.
1. Abomination
Use a lot of Mutamods during your playthrough and upgrade at least 3 different Mutamods to Level 3.
This is the highest-priority post-ending scene.
2. I am the Void
You need to:
- Die at least 20 times during one playthrough.
- Not meet the requirements for a higher-priority scene.
If both conditions are met, you can see the I am the Void scene.
3. There is still hope…
Complete all six side quests during the same playthrough.
The required side quests are:
- Find something for Dr. Nebula
- Violet’s Story
- Rose’s Fragments
- Find a new head for Joey
- Codename: Charlie
- Dates
You also need to avoid meeting the requirements for the two scenes above it.
4. Space Disease
For this scene, you must never use any Mutamods during the playthrough.
You also cannot meet the requirements for a higher-priority scene.
5. The Wrench is the KEY
Kill at least 20 enemies with the wrench during one playthrough.
6. Everything is funky
This is the default post-ending scene.
You will get Everything is funky if you do not meet the requirements for any of the five scenes above.
