If you want to get weapon and item skins in How to Fish, then you need to catch rare Drip creatures and use them at the Reel of Fortune machines to get random skins. You can then equip your unlocked skins using the game’s skin controls.
But if you don’t want to keep farming Drip creatures and rely on random rolls, you can use a save file cheat method. By editing a few values in local.txt, you can unlock all skins for your weapon, equipment, and boat.
The method below was tested on Patch 1.0.10. Before changing anything, make sure to create a backup of your save file.
How to Unlock Weapon Skins?
Important: Make sure you already own or unlock the weapon if you want to change its skin. Its entry is added to the save file only after you buy, unlock, or equip it.
First, close the game and open this folder:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\LocalLow\Dazed Games\How to Fish\Saves
There you will find two text files: First and Local. Double-click on the local.txt file to open it in Notepad.
Now copy the value below and search in the save file:
"UnlockedItemSkins":[]
The weapon skin data is stored inside the square brackets. Each weapon has an ID and a SkinsUnlocked list.
For example:
{"ID":57,"SkinsUnlocked":[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10]}
You need to add the correct skin numbers for each weapon.
Weapon Skin IDs
These are the maximum values for each weapon:

The default skin is not included in these numbers. For example, a Sniper Rifle with values 1 through 15 gives you the numbered skins plus its default skin in-game.
Copy and Paste the Weapon Skin Code
Instead of entering every value manually, you can replace the existing UnlockedItemSkins section with the following code:

Make sure you only replace the correct section. Do not accidentally remove other save data.

How to Unlock All Boat Skins
The boat skins are stored in the same local.txt file, just after the weapon skin section.
Look for:
"UnlockedBoatSkins":[]
Replace the empty brackets with the skin values:
"UnlockedBoatSkins":[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13]Make Sure You Own the Item First
Before editing the skin values, make sure you already own the weapon, item, or boat whose skins you want to unlock.
The skin entry is not present in your save file from the start. When you buy, unlock, or equip an item for the first time, the game saves that item in local.txt. Only after that can you find its ID inside the UnlockedItemSkins section and edit its skin values.
For example, if you don’t own the Sniper Rifle yet, don’t open the save file and expect to find:
{"ID":70,"SkinsUnlocked":[]}If you want to unlock skins for a specific weapon or item:
- Buy or unlock the weapon/item normally in the game.
- Equip it at least once so the game saves it to your profile.
- Close the game.
- Open
local.txtfrom the save folder. - Search for that item’s ID under
UnlockedItemSkins. - Add the skin numbers you want to unlock.
- Save the file and launch the game again.
The same applies to the boat. Make sure you have access to the boat before trying to edit its skin values.
In short: You can’t use the skin code to create an item you don’t own. The item needs to exist in your save data first. Once the game has saved that weapon, item, or boat, you can edit its skin values in local.txt.
Important: Don’t Add Extra Skin Numbers
Be careful when you are editing these values. If you add a number beyond the maximum value, it can cause problems with the skin selection system.
For weapons, an extra value can make the normal C and Z skin cycling behave differently. The boat is more serious: if you put a value of 14 or 15, it can crash the game.
So always use the maximum values listed above.
