Elderfield Blessings, Curses & Removing Status Effects

Elderfield Blessings, Curses & Removing Status Effects

In Welcome to Elderfield, there are many temporary effects that can help or hurt your character. You can pick up blessings and curses while mining, fighting, sleeping, using God Shrines, and even from some food or potions.

Most of these effects change your stats by 10% per stack, with a maximum of 5 stacks. That means a five-stack blessing gives a +50% bonus, while a five-stack curse gives a -50% penalty to the same stat.

Here are the common blessings and curses, how their stacks work, and how you can remove them.

Blessings in Welcome to Elderfield

These are some of the common blessings you can get:

  • Brutalism — +10% Attack/ stack
  • Stubbornness — +10% Defense/ stack
  • Zealotry — +10% Magic Attack/ stack
  • Skepticism — +10% Magic Defense/ stack
  • Daring — +10% Agility/stack
  • Panic — +10% Hit Rate/ stack
  • Greed — +10% Luck/ stack

You can get these effects from God Shrines, moonrise and sleep events, combat, certain food, and potions.

You can also get different blessings and curses from God Shrines, so it is worth knowing where to find them. You can also check our Treasure Rooms of Old Gods guide to find the related treasure room locations.

Curses in Welcome to Elderfield

Curses lower the same types of stats.

  • Sickness — -10% Attack/ stack
  • Weakness — -10% Defense/ stack
  • Chaos — -10% Magic Attack/ stack
  • Hex — -10% Magic Defense/ stack
  • Dread — -10% Agility/ stack
  • Fear — -10% Hit Rate/ stack
  • Doom — -10% Luck/ stack

Generally, you pick up the curses from Mining. However, enemy attacks, Moonrise, God Shrines, and bad rolls can also give you negative effects.

How to Remove Blessings and Curses

You can easily remove all your temporary status effects by bathing at home.

1. Bathe at Home

A bath restores your HP and MP and removes your non-permanent blessings and curses. The only downside is that it removes the good effects too, so you will lose your active buffs along with the curses.

For a bad mining run, going home and taking a bath is usually considered.

2. Use the Soul Moon

The Soul Moon can appear at midnight.

When it appears at midnight, it restores your HP and MP and clears your blessings and curses.

3. Use Specific Potions or Food

Some consumables can also help you with individual status effects.

For specific curses, Restore Potions can remove certain effects. Holy Water and some food can also give you blessings.

This is useful when you want to remove a bad effect without removing all your current buffs.

4. Check Special Blessings

Some special blessings can stay active even after a bath. Cat’s Mystery, for example, can survive bathing, so check the effect descriptions.

Heavy Eyelids Status Effect

Heavy Eyelids effect can trigger if you stay awake for two or more days.

After moonrise on the second day, you can receive this effect, which reduces EXP gain to around 85%.

It does not stack, and taking a bath will not remove it.

You need to sleep to get rid of Heavy Eyelids.

Tax-Related Status Effects

The tax-related effects are another exception.

Carrion, Blight, and Tax Plague will not be removed after taking a normal bath. These effects last until the Tax Man returns.

What to Do After a Bad Mine Run

If you get several curses after mining, go home and take a bath.

You will lose your temporary blessings too, so make sure to check your current buffs first. If the bonuses are not worth keeping, the bath will help you to reset your status effects before you go back out of the home.
