Every customer in Scale the Depths gives you a small clue about which fish they want to eat. Some hints are easy to guess, while others require you to test different fish or rely on mythology.
This guide provides the customer food preferences of Scale the Depths. I have included their favorite fish, least favorite fish, and hunger requirements. I have also tested each customer across all maps and compared the results with the clues they provide. And trust me, the answers are accurate.
I’ve explained why a specific fish matches the customer clue so you don’t have to waste a lot of time guessing.
The customers below are grouped by map and sorted by their hunger requirement.
Scale the Depths Customer Preferences (Loch Ness)
After feeding every customer in the Loch Ness region, I matched their favorite and least favorite fish with the given hints.
Below you’ll find every Loch Ness customer sorted by their hunger requirement, along with the correct foods and an explanation of each hint.
Great Cormorant
Hunger: 80, 140, and 280
Favorite Food: Perch
Hint: “Got any fish with funny stripes?”
Perch is the only fish in Loch Ness with bold vertical stripes. That makes it the only fish that really matches the cormorant’s clue.
Least Favorite Food: Beithir
When you feed the cormorant a Beithir, it sometimes says:
“FISH NO FIT IN MOUTH”
The Beithir is too large for the bird to swallow, so it refuses it.
Eurasian Otter
Hunger: 150 and 262
Favorite Food: Eurasian Minnow
Hint: “Feeling a small snack about now!”
Minnows are tiny fish, and it is the right choice because it fits the otter’s request for a light meal.
Least Favorite Food: Arctic Char
Hint: “No colorful fellers for me!”
Arctic Char has a bright red appearance and stands out more than most fish in this area. Since the otter dislikes colorful fish, Arctic Char is the wrong choice.
Osprey
Hunger: 240 and 360
Favorite Food: Cucumber Smelt
Hint: “I like my fish plain and simple. Nothing added.”
Cucumber Smelt has soft bones and is commonly eaten whole in several European countries. That “plain and simple” description matches this fish.
Least Favorite Food: European Eel
The osprey gives the same hint for both its favorite and least favorite food, so you need to figure it out by elimination.
The European Eel is the Grey Heron’s favorite because it is considered a “fancy” meal. The osprey likes plain and simple fish, so it dislikes the eel.
Grey Heron
Hunger: 300 and 450
Favorite Food: European Eel
Hint: “Do you perchance, carry unagi?”
“Unagi” is the Japanese word for freshwater eel.
Least Favorite Food: Brook Lamprey
Brook Lampreys have a body shape similar to eels, but they’re much more primitive fish.
Since the heron asks specifically for an eel, the lamprey can be the opposite choice despite their similar appearance.
Grey Seal
Hunger: 410 and 615
Favorite Food: Atlantic Salmon
Hint: “Fatty fish make my blubber nice and warm!”
Atlantic Salmon is an oily fish with healthy fats, and seals naturally eat salmon in the wild
Least Favorite Foods
- Ruffe
- Three-Spined Stickleback
Hint: “Spiny fish make my mouth hurt…”
Both of these fish have sharp dorsal spines, which explains why the seal refuses to eat them.
Selkie
Hunger: 500 and 750
Favorite Food: Brown Trout
Hint: “Can you guess my favorite?”
This customer doesn’t provide a clue for its favorite food. You have to guess the correct answer by testing different fish.
I gave it Brown Trout to eat, and it likes it very much. This also makes sense because seals sometimes feed on trout.
Least Favorite Food: Northern Pike
Hint: “A fish down there is named after a human weapon? How brutish…”
This clue refers to the word pike, which is also the name of a long spear used in medieval warfare.
Because of that connection, the Selkie dislikes the Northern Pike.
Kelpie
Hunger: 650 and 900
Favorite Food: Arctic Char
Hint: “The color of heart, I desire something resembling it.”
The clue suggests a red-colored fish.
Arctic Char is one of the few bright red fish found in Loch Ness.
Least Favorite Foods
- Eurasian Minnow
- Cucumber Smelt
Hint: “All those fish that group together, weaklings.”
Both of these fish swim in schools, which matches the Kelpie’s description of fish that stay together.
Nessie
Hunger: 1000
Favorite Food: Beithir
Hint: “I hear there’s something quite scary down there…”
The Beithir is a giant serpent from Scottish folklore. Feeding one mythical creature to another also fits the theme of the Loch Ness area.

Nessie doesn’t give a direct hint for its dislikes.
But you can easily guess, as they can be too small for such a massive creature.
Huatulco Customer Favorite Foods
Customers in the Huatulco region provide tough hints. Some clues point to a fish’s size, while others reference its appearance, behavior, or even mythology. A few customers also dislike an entire size category instead of just one fish.
Axolotl
Hunger: 90 and 180
Favorite Food: Northern Anchovy
Hint: “Small fishies are the best!”
The Northern Anchovy has the Minuscule size rating, making it the smallest fish you can catch in Huatulco.
Least Favorite Foods
- Giant Damselfish
- Every fish from Average size up to Hoga
The Axolotl likes tiny meals. Any fish rated Average or larger is too big, so it refuses all of them.
White-Nosed Coati
Hunger: 140 and 210
Favorite Food: Panamic Sergeant Major
Hint: “I prefer my fish easy to catch… and easier to eat.”
The Panamic Sergeant Major appears early in the map, and you can catch them easily. It matches both parts of the clue.
Least Favorite Food: Cortez Rainbow Wrasse
The Cortez Rainbow Wrasse lives in similar areas but makes quick dashes while you’re reeling it in. That extra movement makes it harder to catch, which explains why the Coati dislikes it.
Magnificent Frigatebird
Hunger: 260 and 390
Favorite Food: Scrawled Filefish
Hint: “Got any fancy-lookin’ fish on ya? I’ve got an eye for treasure.”
The Scrawled Filefish has one of the most colorful and decorative patterns in Huatulco. Its flashy appearance fits the bird’s love for anything that looks valuable.
Least Favorite Food: Cortez Sea Chub
Compared to the Filefish, the Cortez Sea Chub looks plain and ordinary. The Frigatebird prefers eye-catching fish, so this one becomes its least favorite.
Brown Pelican
Hunger: 340 and 510
Favorite Food: Cortez Sea Chub
Hint: “Can you guess my fave? It rhymes with scrub.”
This clue is a rhyme.
Chub rhymes with scrub, so the answer is the Cortez Sea Chub.
Least Favorite Food: Scrawled Filefish
Hint: “Ain’t one for the gaudier fish, kind of bring down my appetite.”
The Pelican dislikes bright, flashy fish. Since the Scrawled Filefish is the Frigatebird’s favorite for that reason, it becomes the Pelican’s least favorite.
Atotolin
Hunger: 450 and 675
Favorite Foods
- Bluespotted Cornetfish
- Red Cornetfish
Hint: “I would love to witness the most uniquely shaped life form you can find.”
Cornetfish have extremely long, thin bodies that look completely different from most fish in the region.
Least Favorite Food: Spot-fin Porcupinefish
Hint: “There is one below… spiked and dangerous.”
The Spot-fin Porcupinefish inflates its body and raises sharp spines when threatened. It’s also highly toxic, making it the obvious answer.
Chupacabra
Hunger: 670 and 1005
Favorite Food: Roosterfish
Hint: “I won’t leave without a feast, so make it a big one.”
The Chupacabra wants one of the largest meals available.
The Roosterfish fits that requirement perfectly. It also matches the creature’s mythology, since Chupacabra are famous for attacking livestock and feeding on larger prey.
Least Favorite Foods
Every fish with a Minuscule or Tiny size rating, including:
- Northern Anchovy
- All fish up to Three-Banded Butterflyfish
Small fish don’t satisfy the Chupacabra’s appetite, so it rejects every fish in those size categories.
Cipactli
Hunger: 920 and 1840
Favorite Food: None
Least Favorite Food: None
Hint: “…”
Cipactli never provides a clue because it doesn’t seem to care what you feed it.
According to Aztec mythology, Cipactli constantly demands food. That matches its behavior in the game, where it accepts everything without showing a clear favorite or least favorite.
Quetzalcōātl
Hunger: 1600
Favorite Food: Hoga
Hint: “A senseless beast lurks below… fell it and bring it to me.”
The Texcocichthys Hoga is one of Huatulco’s cryptids, making it the “beast” mentioned in the clue.
Least Favorite Foods
- Bluespotted Cornetfish
- Red Cornetfish
Quetzalcōātl doesn’t provide a hint for its dislikes.
Testing different fish shows that it refuses both Cornetfish species, even though the game never explains why.
Outer Banks
Here are all Outer Banks customers’ favorite and not favorite food, sorted by their hunger requirement.
Belted Kingfisher
Hunger: 60 and 120
Favorite Food: Bluegill (Older Version)
Hint: “Black spots, add flavor.”
This clue doesn’t really match the answer. Bluegill doesn’t have the black spots, while White Crappie actually does.
Based on earlier versions of the game, Bluegill was the correct favorite food. Later updates changed this to White Crappie, so your result may depend on the game version.

The Kingfisher never gives a proper hint for its disliked fish. Its dialogue only says these fish are too big, which matches all four choices.
Loggerhead Sea Turtle
Hunger: 145 and 210
Favorite Food: Red Swamp Crawfish
Hint: “Something with a bit of crunch.”
Red Swamp Crawfish aren’t fish at all. They’re crustaceans with a hard exoskeleton, so the “crunch” clue points directly to them.
Least Favorite Food: Summer Flounder
Hint: “Floppy food, is it even real food?”
Summer Flounder is an extremely flat fish, which explains the turtle’s comment about floppy food.
Cottonmouth
Hunger: 275 and 410
Favorite Food: Chain Pickerel
Hint: “I’m salivating for something green and long…”
Chain Pickerel has a long body and a green color, making it an easy match for the clue.
Least Favorite Food: Fathead Minnow
Hint: “Don’t bring me some meager fish.”
Fathead Minnow is one of the smallest fish in the Outer Banks.
Great Blue Heron
Hunger: 320 and 480
Favorite Food: American Eel
Hint: “Do you perchance, carry unagi?”
Just like the Grey Heron in Loch Ness, this clue uses the Japanese word unagi, which means freshwater eel.
That makes the American Eel the correct answer.
Least Favorite Food: White Crappie
White Crappie is a common food fish, so it may be too ordinary for the Heron compared to the eel.
Bald Eagle
Hunger: 560 and 840

Hint: “Food must be big and full of nutrients! How else would one get strong?”
Snappers are large predatory fish with plenty of meat. They fit the Eagle’s request for a nutritious meal.
Least Favorite Food: Red Swamp Crawfish
Hint: “Shelled creatures are not my thing, so keep those away!”
The Bald Eagle refuses crawfish because they’re crustaceans with hard shells instead of regular fish.
Spotted Eagle Ray
Hunger: 750 and 1125

Hint: “Anything easy to eat on hand?”
Both fish are popular table fish, and the game even describes White Crappie as one of the best-tasting freshwater fish.
Least Favorite Foods
- Gafftopsail Catfish
- Blue Catfish
Hint: “Catfish ain’t really my thing.”
This one is as direct as it gets. The Eagle Ray dislikes both catfish species in the region.
Bunyip
Hunger: 840 and 1260
Favorite Food: Black Sea Bass
Hint: “Bright creatures burn the eyes… I much prefer the dark.”
Black Sea Bass matches the clue because of its dark color and name.
Least Favorite Food: Hogfish
Hogfish has a bright reddish appearance, making it the exact opposite choice.
Alligator
Hunger: 975 and 1460
Favorite Food: Lost Dimetrodon
Hint: “I hear there’s something ancient down there, oh how I’d like to taste that.”
The Lost Dimetrodon existed long before dinosaurs, making it the oldest creature in the region.
Least Favorite Food: American Eel
Hint: “Slimy stuff is the worst, leaves your mouth all gross after.”
Several fish could fit this description, but testing confirms the American Eel is the disliked food of the Alligator.
Uktena
Hunger: 2000
Favorite Foods
- Gafftopsail Catfish
- Blue Catfish
- Red Swamp Crawfish
- American Eel
Hint: “I hate those scaly creatures, none of that nonsense for me.”
Catfish don’t have scales, so both species are Uktena’s favorite meals.
Least Favorite Foods
Every scaled fish that is found in the Outer Banks.
Point Nemo
Seagull
Hunger: 230 and 345
Favorite Foods
- Common Clownfish (Marlin and Nemo
- Regal Tang (Dory)
Hint: “WHERE ARE THE FISHIES?? ANY CUTE BLUE OR ORANGE ONES? THEY’RE MY FAVORITE!”
This is a clear reference to Finding Nemo. The hungry seagulls in the movie continuously shout “Mine! Mine! Mine!” while chasing fish.
The clue also mentions blue and orange fish, which matches Regal Tang (Dory) and Common Clownfish (Marlin and Nemo).
Least Favorite Food
None
I couldn’t find any fish that the Seagull doesn’t like. It seems like it likes every food.
Hawksbill Sea Turtle
Hunger: 135 and 202
Favorite Food: Northern Anchovy
Hint: “A light snack would be nice…”
Northern Anchovy is the smallest fish available in Point Nemo.
Least Favorite Foods
- Moorish Idol
- Regal Tang
Hint: “Floppy food, is it even real food?”
Great White Pelican
Hunger: 360 and 540
Favorite Food: Pacific Cod
Hint: “Wanna take a guess at my fave? It rhymes with rod!”
This one is easy. Cod rhymes with rod, so Pacific Cod is the correct answer.
Least Favorite Foods
- Titan Triggerfish
- Blackspotted Puffer
Hint: “Ain’t one for the gaudier fish, kinda bring down my appetite.”
Both fish have bright, flashy colors, which matches the Pelican’s dislike of gaudy-looking fish.
Bottlenose Dolphin
Hunger: 580 and 870
Favorite Food: Blackspotted Puffer
Hint: “You got a quick puffer on you? There’s a lot you can do with ’em!”
This clue references real Bottlenose Dolphins. Scientists have observed that when it passes pufferfish, it releases small amounts of toxin. They believe they may do this for stimulation.
Least Favorite Food: Pacific Cod
Hint: “Just don’t give me anything TOO bori- I’m boreddd now!”
Pacific Cod is one of the plainest fish in the region.
Giant Pacific Octopus
Hunger: 690 and 1035
Favorite Food: Ocean Sunfish
Hint: “If only I could get my tentacles on the softest meat you’ve got.”
Ocean Sunfish have a soft, gelatinous body beneath the skin instead of the firm muscle found in most fish.
Least Favorite Food: Yellowfin Tuna
Hint: “Speedy swimmers make for crude consumables.”
Yellowfin Tuna are among the fastest swimmers in the ocean, so they’re exactly the kind of prey the Octopus doesn’t want.
Great White Shark
Hunger: 900 and 1350
Favorite Food: Escolar
Hint: “I’m salivating for some fatty juicy fish meat…”
Escolar contains an unusually high amount of oil. Roughly 20% of its body weight is made up of oily wax esters. That makes it one of the fattiest fish in the region.
Least Favorite Food: Common Clownfish
The Shark doesn’t provide a direct hint here.
Testing shows it dislikes the Common Clownfish because there is no meat on such a tiny fish.
Mermaid
Hunger: 1100 and 1650
Favorite Foods
- Bigeye Pacific Opah
- Spotted Parrotfish
Hint: “They say you are what you eat so only the most glamorous fish for me!”
Both fish have colorful patterns and flashy appearances, making them the most glamorous choices in Point Nemo.
Least Favorite Foods
- Blackspotted Puffer
- Escolar
- Ocean Sunfish
These fish are plain compared to the Mermaid’s favorite choices, so she refuses them.
Orca
Hunger: 1600 and 2400
Favorite Food: Giant Oarfish
Hint: “Bigger is better when it comes to food, so give me the largest fish you’ve got.”
The Giant Oarfish is one of only two fish in the Comically Big size category. The other is Apophis 99942, but the Giant Oarfish is a real fish, making it the correct answer.

The Orca dislikes most fish in the Minuscule, Tiny, and Small size categories.
Kraken
Hunger: 3200
Favorite Foods
- Fangtooth

Hint: “I hunger for curiosities beyond your mortal understanding. If you bear such things, they will be mine.”
Both fish live in the deep ocean and rarely appear in everyday fishing games, making them the best match for the Kraken’s mysterious request.
Least Favorite Food
None
I couldn’t find any fish that the Kraken doesn’t like.

A few hints are still misleading, and some favorite foods have changed in game updates, such as the Belted Kingfisher. Future patches could change parts of this list. I’ll update this guide whenever new customers or preference changes are added.
