Portal: Alive & Kicking All Achievements Guide

Portal: Alive & Kicking All Achievements Guide

Portal: Alive & Kicking is all about solving test chambers using portals while dealing with turrets, energy pellets, and a bunch of other traps. As you play through the chambers, you can unlock some achievements automatically as part of the story.

A few achievements are a little different, though. You need to do something specific to get them, like flushing the toilet, getting stuck behind a door, or completing Chamber 16 without knocking over any turrets.

So, if you’re trying to get all the achievements, I’ve listed everything below with the chamber numbers and the exact things you need to do. I’ve also added the current details about the hidden achievement map and the Multiverse Explorer achievement.

Portal: Alive & Kicking Story Achievements

High-Energy Professional

Achievement: Complete the first High-Energy Pellet test.

You will get this trophy naturally when you play through the story.

High-Energy Professional

You have to reach Test Chamber 06, which is also the first chamber where you’ll deal with High-Energy Pellets. Complete all the objectives, and the achievement will unlock.

The Device Has Been Modified

Achievement: Acquire the Dual Portal Device.

This is another story achievement that you cannot miss during a normal playthrough.

The Device Has Been Modified

You will reach Test Chamber 11, where you can obtain the Dual Portal Device. Solve the puzzle in this chamber and pick up the device.

The achievement unlocks when you acquire it.

Fratricide

Achievement: Do whatever it takes to survive.

You will get this achievement in Test Chamber 17.

Fratricide

During the chamber, you need to put the Companion Cube into the Emergency Intelligence Incinerator.

Yes, you have to burn the Companion Cube. Once you perform the required action, the achievement will unlock automatically.

Life of the Party

Achievement: Make the incorrect party escort submission position decision.

This achievement is connected to the story and unlocks after Test Chamber 19.

Life of the Party

Complete the chamber, survive the fiery section, escape the burning pit, and continue through the escape levels. The achievement will unlock when you complete all the required objectives.

Heartbreaker

Achievement: Complete Alive & Kicking.

This is the final story achievement.

Heartbreaker

Keep playing until you defeat GLaDOS and finish the game. The achievement will unlock when you reach the end of the story.

Other Achievements

Unappreciated Business

Achievement: Make a toilet hate you.

You can unlock this trophy immediately after starting the game.

In the Aperture Science relaxation chamber, walk over to the toilet. Look at it and repeatedly press E to flush it. You’ll have to flush it roughly 20 times.

Unappreciated Business

Keep doing this until you hear a different sound and the toilet lid suddenly slams shut.

The achievement will then unlock.

Get Stuck

Achievement: Get stuck.

There are a couple of ways to trigger this achievement.

Here is my personally recommended method. Go inside the Test Chamber 05 and throw a blue portal on the exit door. The cube will be stuck on the other side where you cannot reach it.

Get Stuck

After GLaDOS comments on you being stuck, the gate will open and the achievement will be unlocked.

You can also throw a cube through the orange portal so that it comes out behind the exit.

Alternatively, you can also get stuck in the chamber with two buttons and the pellet door. When you reach the small area containing the pellet receiver, an escape hatch will open underneath you, which can also trigger the achievement.

Blameless

Achievement: Complete Chamber 16 without knocking over any turrets.

This is one of the more annoying achievements because you need to finish Test Chamber 16 without knocking a single turret over.

Blameless

If even one turret falls onto its side, you will need to restart the chamber.

You can safely deal with the turrets from behind:

  1. Approach a turret from behind.
  2. Pick it up.
  3. Turn it toward the wall.
  4. Leave it standing upright.
  5. Use cubes to block laser sights when needed.

The important part is that the turrets must remain standing. Don’t accidentally tip them over while moving them.

If a turret falls, you will have to restart Chamber 16 and try again.

Multiverse Explorer

Achievement: Beat all of the levels in the Extras menu.

Normally, you would expect to complete every bonus chamber found under Extras. However, the current version reportedly handles this achievement differently.

At the moment, Chamber 18 Advanced is the only Extras level that counts toward the achievement.

So try this first:

  • Open the Extras menu.
  • Start Chamber 18 Advanced.
  • Complete the level.
  • Check your achievements.

Hidden Achievement Map

There was also a hidden map called achieve.bsp in the game files.

The map contained two buttons:

  • Left button: Grants the Multiverse Explorer achievement.
  • Right button: Resets all achievements.

The map could previously be opened through the console using:

map achieve

However, this method is not currently reliable. A recent report says the console command no longer works, so don’t rely on the hidden map as your main method for unlocking achievements.

Also, be careful with the old achievement map. The right-side button can reset all of your achievements.

That covers the currently known Portal: Alive & Kicking achievements and their unlock requirements.
